Firebirds Take 1st Place at Cottage Grove 2008

The Firebirds started out Friday night with a 2-1 win against Maplebrook.  Goals were scored by Amanda Eidem and Nikki Klucas.

Game 2 on Saturday morning was against Rochester Euro.  This game ended in a 1-1 tie.  The lone goal scored by Amanda Eidem.  

Game 3 on Saturday evening was against West St. Paul Sting.  The Firebirds won 2-0 with a goal by Nikki Klucas and a header goal by Kara Ryan off a corner kick by Klucas.

Game 4 on Sunday morning was a 6-0 shut-out with 4 goals scored by Anna Versen and 2 by Kelsey, one of which was a header goal off a corner kick by Megan Joyce.  Assists went to Bailie, Amanda and Anna.

The championship game later on Sunday was against Centennial Spirit and the Firebirds scored early in the game.  2 goals scored by Anna Versen, 1 by Bailie Leutem and 1 by Nikki Klucas scoring on a corner kick off the goalie.  The assists went to Amanda, Nikki, and Bailie.

The Firebirds held tough with strong defense from Kara Ryan, Megan Joyce, Emily Petersen, Melissa Plooster, Natalie Wolf & Shannon Berglund.  Strong mid-fielding and assists to Meaghan Hughes, Kaley Johannesson, Nikki Klucas, Meagan DeYoung, Amanda Eidem & Kelsey Jacobson.  Strong and involved goaltending for all 5 games was done by Katie Copouls who helped earned the 2 shut-outs. Bridgit Bergquist and Jenna Basman were injured and could not participate in the tournament.  The team is coached by Neville Basman & Steve Klucas.
