The U16 Phoenix Fury win championship at the Maplebrook Tourney 2009
The Golden Valley Phoenix Fury U16 Girls take championship at the Maplebrook Tournament held May 29-31, 2009.
Game 1 was against Burnsville on Sat morning. The Fury tied 2-2 with goals from Michelle Johnson and Julia Potach. The Fury then went on to beat a U17 girls team from Maplebrook 3-0 that afternoon with 2 goals from Hannah Riesner and 1 goal from Michelle Johnson. Game 3 on Sunday was against a U16 Maplebrook team and again, the Fury blanked the competitor 3-0 with a goal each by Hannah Carlson, Michelle Johnson and Mallory Lundquist. Tough defense and goaltending helped earned their 2 shut-outs.
The team enjoyed the tournament and is now looking forward to their next tournament in Iowa June 12th weekend.
The team is coached by Dick Carlson, Sara Clancy (a player for the University of Minnesota Soccer Team) and Mike LaHaye.
